The Second Life Kitchen Utility Knife is a blade perfect for someone who needs something to tackle almost any task in the kitchen.
“essentials” serves as an entry point for those looking to get a taste of hand forged knives, without breaking the bank.
HANDLE: Traditional Japanese-style octagonal handle, with plastic waste collected from restaurants and cafes in East London through our recycling scheme: The ReCycle Lane.
THEME: “ORANGE SUNSHINE”
BLADE: UTILITY 160mm
CONSTRUCTION: San Mai is a Japanese technique where the steel that forms the cutting edge is wedged between stainless steel or iron for greater durability and rust resistance.
HRC: 62 - This blade is razor sharp but can chip if used inappropriately. The care sheet supplied with your knife will give you so do’s and don’ts for using your knife safely.
STEEL: Shirogami #2. This steel is easy to maintain and sharpen.
The black finish on the blade is known as “Kurouchi”. This is not a permanent feature and will begin to fade with use, this can be slowed by taking care of your knife, by following the care sheet provided.
Eventually this will evolve and be replaced by “patina”, a healthy and natural protector against rust.
This is a completely handmade product, so blade lengths may differ very slightly from description
“essentials” kurouchi may shed quicker than our other models.
This is an age restricted product (18+). Age identification will be required upon delivery.
